The story is predictable and, to tell you the truth, unoriginal. It touches family issues, child neglect and spousal (partner) abuse. Surprisingly, I didn't feel involved in the characters' feelings, no matter how cute, adorable, unsure of themselves or scared or sick they thought they were. Just didn't click. No strong emotions from me, except for Gene's situation. Maybe because the narrator herself seems a bit detached, the story flows too evenly, almost mellow, with very few spikes of Oh! and Ah! here and there.
I can see how it can be a great read for certain readers, but I am thinking of 3.5 stars.
To sum it up: Did I like it? Yes. Will I remember it a month from now? I think not.
